How to write a joke - Jerry Seinfeld

Here, courtesy of The New York Times, we have Jerry Seinfeld describing the anatomy of his Pop-Tart joke, which (after two years) is still a work in progress, and demonstrating his longhand writing process.

Every episode of Seinfeld was written on yellow legal paper with a Bic clear-barreled pen. Now I know the secret to writing!

It is a sign of the times that Jerry Seinfeld likens joke creation to songwriting. A generation ago, he might have likened it to writing poetry.
