This is a clip from Samsara, a 2011 documentary directed by Ron Fricke (best known for Koyaanisqatsi) and produced by Mark Magidson. It was filmed over five years in 25 countries around the world.

I applaud the thrust of this movie, that as a society we are inflicting cruelty on animals and process workers to overproduce food which we then overeat. The movie induces disgust, as intended.

We need movies like this, to help us see ourselves and our society, but we have to be careful they are not misused. Many people campaign against farrowing stalls, for example, where a sow is trapped behind bars while her piglets suckle. Certainly this is unnecessary at other times in her life, but anyone who has seen the injuries inflicted on piglets after their mother rolls on them will at least understand why they were invented.
