Penny Marshall is seventy. She has appeared in almost sixty films and TV shows. She starred in Laverne & Shirley, played an agent in The Hard Way (a guilty pleasure of mine), and directed Big, A League of Their Own and a dozen others.
She grew up at 3235 Grand Concourse, the Bronx, a street that also spawned Neil Simon, Paddy Chayefsky, Calvin Klein, and Ralph Lauren. She began her career as a tap dancer at age three.
Her first marriage (to Michael Henry) took place on November 22, 1963, the day President John F. Kennedy was shot. They spent the honeymoon in a motel watching the funeral on TV. Her second husband was Rob Reiner. They parted unhappily in 1979, and that relationship became one of the influences on the development of When Harry Met Sally.
Here's a celebration of her career put together by Jery October.

It must be wonderful to be able to look back on a lifetime of achievement like Penny Marshall's. She has worked so hard and created so much.
These short movies showing directors' movies can be educational but this one didn't seem to have much of a theme except for picking cute bits out of favourite movies.
