I believe orange is associated with fire rather than the tropics. Also black has connotations of shadows, darkness and death when used as a background, although I agree it is authoritative when used in font. In our spoilt age, brown makes many people think of chocolate (or is it just me!)

This infographic really makes one realise how pervasive logos are - many quiz nights now have logo recognition contests, but it's a bit horrifying to realise young children have been indoctrinated as well. Loved the story about the Nike logo.

My own logo was created by my website designer without me even asking for it and I love it.
